Fab Lab for young NIS scientists

A meeting with representatives of Nazarbayev University Fab Laboratory Technopark took place at Nazarbayev Intellectual School of Physics and Mathematics of Nur- Sultan city.

During the meeting, Grade 8-9 students received information about the activities of the first digital production laboratory in Kazakhstan – Nur-Sultan Business Campus Fab Lab.

Fab Lab (Fabrication Laboratory) is a worldwide network of laboratories with the most advanced equipment for digital production; it allows scientist and other specialists to translate any idea into a finished product. The laboratory employs experienced consultants who will help everyone via modern equipment to make layouts of various projects. Fab Lab also organizes courses for everyone in many areas such as electronics, digital modeling, analog circuit engineering and design.

The presentation about Fab Lab was given by the manager of ABC Fab Lab – Assel Bizhanova.

– In the laboratory, you can create a prototype of your project, find like-minded people and learn how to work with the most advanced equipment for 3D prototyping. This is a good opportunity to create scientific projects. In June, we plan to work in a summer camp for school students of 8-11 grades. The participants will have an opportunity to master the basic concepts of 3D modeling, printing and programming of electronic circuit boards,” said Assel Bizhanova.

Young intellectuals were very interested in a 3D printer, a vinyl plotter, and other laboratory equipment. Aidar Alimbaev, a Fab Lab engineer, briefly spoke about different facilities and showed a small 3D printing workshop.

At the meeting participants agreed on the cooperation of the Intellectual School with the Fab Laboratory of the Technopark of Nazarbayev University. This is important for the expansion of educational opportunities for the students (STEM programs).
