✔ In 2008, a project “20 Intellectual Schools of Natural Science and Mathematics Direction for gifted and talented children” was launched with the initiative of the First President.

✔ The Joint-Stock Company “Orken” was established by the Resolution of the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan dated May 13, 2008, No. 452 to create and provide the activities for the network of intellectual schools, and introduce innovative technologies in the educational sphere.

✔ In August-October 2008, a competitive selection of teachers was held at the Intellectual School of Physics and Mathematics in Astana. Applicants underwent testing in the subject, wrote an essay on a given topic, and passed an interview. Orientation courses were organized for hired teachers. In the 2009-2010 academic year, 85 teachers worked at the school.

Competitive selection. 2008

✔ In December 2008, on the basis of secondary school No. 59 in Astana, a competitive selection was held for 2210 students who expressed a desire to study at a school for gifted children. The competition was held in two stages:

❋ Stage 1: Comprehensive assessment of knowledge in four subjects: mathematics, Kazakh language, Russian language, English language.

❋ Stage 2: Determining the level of readiness for learning in a given school – completing 5 tasks of three levels of difficulty (A, B, C). In the 2009-2010 academic year, 792 students studied at the school.

✔ On January 12, 2009, the first Intellectual School of the First President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, specializing in physics and mathematics, was opened in the city of Astana in the building located at 2/1 Turkestan Street. The first President of Kazakhstan, Nursultan Abishuly Nazarbayev, rang the first bell in the First Intellectual School, congratulated the first teachers and students, and visited the first lessons.

Representatives of the A.N. Kolmogorov International Scientific School at Moscow State University named after M.V. Lomonosov, the “Schools of the Future of Singapore,” and the “Smart Schools” of South Korea were invited to the opening ceremony of the school.

✔ According to the order of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan No. 636 dated December 4, 2008, the school is an experimental site for testing

curricula of the physical and mathematical direction.

✔ On March 14, 2009, Decree of the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan No. 317 “On approval of the Rules for awarding and the size of the educational grant “Orken” to pay for the education of gifted children in the Intellectual Schools of the Republic of Kazakhstan was adopted.

✔ On January 19, 2011, the Law of the Republic of Kazakhstan “On the status of Nazarbayev University”, “Nazarbayev Intellectual Schools” and “Nazarbayev Foundation” was adopted to introduce a modern form of management in the field of education, development of academic freedom and autonomy necessary for the implementation of innovative educational programs and scientific projects .

✔ 2014-2015 academic year the Intellectual School started in a new building, which is located on 31st street, next to Nazarbayev University. A beautiful, modern new school building consists of three floors, fourteen blocks, and the adjacent territory occupies a plot with a total area of 7.2 hectares.

✔ In October 2016, Intellectual School of Physics and Mathematics in Astana got the international accreditation of the Council of International Schools.
