Successful NIS environmental projects were presented at the Nazarbayev Intellectual School of Physics and Mathematics in Astana to the participants of the UNDP round table on environmental education.
More than 40 representatives of education departments and organizations, as well as pilot schools of Almaty, East Kazakhstan, Turkestan regions discussed the algorithms in the implementation of continuous environmental education and in the development of ecological culture of students.
The principal of the Nazarbayev Intellectual School of Physics and Mathematics in Astana Assel Beisembinova analyzed the environmental priorities of NIS, the round table participants visited the HUB, got acquainted with the research and project work of schoolchildren, met with students and teachers.
The main event was the workshop “Implementation of environmental projects of Nazarbayev Intellectual Schools” to expand the knowledge and skills of students needed to solve environmental problems.
Galiya Alzhanova, Deputy Director of the Center for Educational Programs, emphasized that environmental education, including eco-volunteering and eco-activism, is a part of the NIS development strategy.
Members of the ecological club of the International Baccalaureate Intellectual School presented their own experience in the formation of a responsible attitude to the environment.
All participants of the meeting expressed their readiness for active cooperation with the Intellectual Schools and their intention to participate in their environmental projects.
During the round table, the program “Biological Diversity of Forest Ecosystems”, developed within the framework of UNDP projects, was presented. This program logically complements the main school subjects in natural sciences, since it is aimed at studying and preserving the biodiversity of the Kazakhstani part of Altai, the Northern and Western Tien Shan, Zhetysu Alatau.
